Many of you participated in the discussion “Car rides or public transport: how to make life easier?” and we thank you for that. Here is a summary of your comments.

Strollers that don’t always make things easier

The stroller is a recurring element in the difficulties you encounter when traveling with your children.

For 75% of you, strollers are difficult to fold and unfold. A daily action that can quickly become cumbersome when the systems are not intuitive and easy to use, or when there are crowds. Alone, moving with a stroller becomes exhausting when numerous steps block your path, as experienced by Maman Tendance. Who hasn’t had to carry their stroller because no one stopped to help?

20% of NOVA parents believe that the weight and maneuverability of strollers still need improvement. @Chrispix shares, “The biggest difficulty was having to use public transport with this bulky and not easily maneuverable object in a cramped space.” You prefer lighter strollers, equipped with more storage, to free up your hands for better steering. Diapers, bottles, water bottles, snacks, not to mention mom’s (or dad’s) belongings… going out with your children can require a significant load!

For most of you, public transport is not suitable for strollers. Often cumbersome, they complicate access and boarding on buses or subways. During peak times, finding a seat or standing space to stabilize the stroller feels like an impossible mission.

Prioritizing the safety and comfort of your children

According to Sécurange, 70% of car seats are not installed correctly. Instruction manuals that are sometimes hard to decipher complicate assembly once on site. You also highlight a lack of information on how to secure it properly, as described by @Chantalb: “We move the seat from one car to another. Each time we wonder: Where do the straps go? Is it properly secured?” Simple and clear diagrams attached to childcare products like car seats would reassure you about the technique to adopt. Especially since sometimes you need to be able to detach your child easily. The working mum has even had a bitter experience with this.

To best secure your children, you ensure that the seatbelt is adjusted to the child’s size and that it does not twist.

A new I-Size regulation complements the existing R44/04 regulation. It aims to standardize the ISOFIX* system on new seats to reduce the risks of improper installation. Manufacturers are now required to test seats during side impacts for them to be approved. Seats will be able to transport children facing backward until 15 months and will now be adapted to the child’s height rather than their weight. Car manufacturers are also being made aware to adapt their vehicles to these seats.

The top 5 innovations from ParentsNOVAteurs

Among the ideas that emerged from your contributions, we particularly noted:

– An age-adaptive stroller. A 3-in-1 stroller that can carry the child from birth to 3 years, adjusting to their size.
– A multi-position stroller. It offers different positions (high chair, reclining, stool, portable…) to reduce its bulk depending on the environment, without having to take the child out.
– A car seat adapted to the child’s size. Parents have noticed that their children often arch their backs because they slide out of their seat. An adjustable and integrated footrest would be the solution.
– An integrated retractable belt in car seats, so you no longer have to adjust the belt according to the baby’s outfit.
– Finally, the installation of car seats in public transport would be a real innovation for the safety and comfort of your children, encouraging you to use them more regularly.
